SUMMARY

Van Wijk Pharma Engineering is a company specializing in the design and CNC manufacturing of highly advanced projects for the pharmaceutical industry. The products designed and produced by Van Wijk Pharma Engineering are primarily utilized in the medication filling process for major pharmaceutical companies. Due to the critical medical nature, aseptic and sterile designs are mandatory in ensuring the integrity of the filling process; any contamination is strictly prohibited. Even the tiniest details in the design can make significant differences in the filling process outcomes. Van Wijk Pharma Engineering exclusively works with high-grade stainless steel, which is machined using state-of-the-art CNC machines. In addition to stainless steel, premium-grade plastics such as PEEK are extensively used, enabling the creation of aseptic components such as bearings with highest precision.

MY ROLE

I was hired by Van Wijk as an Engineer to tackle the designs of pharmaceutical equipment. Given the complexity of the projects, I took on additional responsibilities in project management to ensure smooth project execution. In addition to my engineering duties, I assisted Van Wijk with various organizational changes and implementations. These included transitioning from Solidworks to Inventor, implementing a PDM system, and optimizing design and production processes through strategic business choises.

Below is a very brief selection of projects to which I contributed at Van Wijk Pharma Engineering:

Composite Structures

Asceptic Sieve Container

I had the opportunity to work on a project for a world-famous pharmaceutical supplier, where I was involved in the engineering and production of a high-grade stainless steel sieve. This sieve is an important part of the process used to fill medicines.

Since the sieve is used for pharmaceutical purposes, the quality and finish had to be extremely high. Every surface was carefully polished to avoid any risk of contamination or leftover residue. Even the smallest imperfection could cause problems.

The sieve was also designed to be used in the highest-class cleanroom, where it comes into direct contact with the medicine. Bringing the sieve into the cleanroom and integrating it into the filling process was a challenge because there could be no contamination, and the production process could not be stopped.

This project shows my ability to deliver high-quality engineering solutions for industries with strict standards, while also solving practical challenges. Note: Due to NDA, no pictures of the product are available.
